PCMODEL: MICROCOMPUTER GRAPHICS ON THE PC
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
To run PCMODEL you must have a color graphics adapter and monitor (CGA,
EGA, or VGA). If you have an EGA display adapter, it must have 256K of
graphics memory (most do) to run in high resolution mode. Your computer must
have at least 384K of memory and be running MS-DOS 2.x, 3.x, or 4.x. A
Microsoft(R) compatible mouse device (either 2- or 3-button) is highly
recommended but not required.
The programs and data files on this disk are in compressed form and must be
extracted before they can be used. The programs can be installed on a hard
disk (the preferred approach) or expanded to a series of three floppy disks
(360K). If you are using 3.5-inch disks, the entire expansion can be done to a
single 720K diskette instead of three different 360K disks.
Begin by placing this disk in drive A: and closing the drive door. Change to
the A: drive by typing "A:" followed by a carriage return. Follow the
appropriate set of instructions below:
TO INSTALL PCMODEL ON A HARD DISK: If you want to install the program
on a hard disk other than C:, or in a directory other than "\PCMODEL," use an
ASCII text editor to modify the occurrences of the drive letter and/or the
subdirectory path name in the HINSTALL.BAT file before executing the file.
Type "HINSTALL" followed by a carriage return. The batch file will extract
the program files automatically and place them in a subdirectory,
"C:\PCMODEL" unless you have changed it. It will then place a series of sample
data files in a lower directory, "C:\PCMODEL\DATA." The documentation (66 pages)
is in a file, "PCMODEL3.DOC" in the PCMODEL subdirectory and can be dumped to
any standard printer.
TO INSTALL PCMODEL ON FLOPPY DISKS: Type "FINSTALL" followed by a carriage
return. A batch file will prompt you for a series of three formatted, labeled
diskettes. When the extraction is complete, the program files will be on a
Working Disk, the data files will be on a Data Disk, and the documentation
will be on its own disk.
If you find PCMODEL to be useful in your research, teaching, or other
activities, a registration of $69 would be appreciated. Upon full registration,
you will receive a 250-page printed user's manual, registered disks, notice of
updates, a file conversion program, and access to the coordinate data
consortium. A convenient registration form is at the end of the documentation
and in the file, "ORDER.DOC."
